Governor Martin O’Malley Endorses Haley Stevens for U.S. Senate

11/5/2025

“Donald Trump is putting Social Security at risk, and there is no one more ready to stand up to his B.S. than Haley Stevens.”

DETROIT, MI
 – Today, former Maryland Governor and former commissioner of the Social Security Administration Martin O’Malley endorsed Haley Stevens for U.S. Senate. O’Malley has been on the front lines of protecting Social Security from Donald Trump’s attacks on Michiganders’ earned benefits.

“Donald Trump has slashed Social Security staffing and put Social Security benefits at great risk.  But Michiganders can fight back. So that is why I am endorsing Haley Stevens for U.S. Senate,” said Governor O’Malley. “Haley is a fighter. And I know she will not only fight to restore the damage Trump has done to Social Security, but she will also fight to make sure Social Security has the ability to pay 100% of the benefits people all across Michigan have worked their whole lives to earn. Leadership, effectiveness, and a framework for the future — Haley Stevens will fight for you, and she’ll fight to protect Social Security.”

“Governor Martin O’Malley has never been afraid to take on Donald Trump and I’m honored to have his endorsement in this race for U.S. Senate so we can protect Michiganders’ earned benefits together,” said Haley Stevens. “Michiganders deserve a champion who will protect their Social Security and deliver real results for our state — that’s what I’ve done my entire life and it’s why I’m running for U.S. Senate to defeat Mike Rogers.”

Haley has a strong record of protecting Social Security and Michiganders’ earned benefits. In her first year in office, Haley passed the Butch Lewis Act to protect the pensions of tens of thousands of union workers and retirees across Michigan. She helped lead the passage of the Social Security Fairness Act to protect the Social Security that millions of public sector employees spent their lives earning. And when Donald Trump and Elon Musk were trying to get access to Americans’ private Social Security data, Haley wrote a bill to stop them and keep Social Security out of DOGE’s hands.

Haley continues to gain momentum in her race and is the only candidate in this race with the endorsement of multiple labor unions. So far, Haley has been endorsed by Teamsters Local 243UNITE Here Local 24Pipefitters, Steamfitters, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Service Local Union 636former state House Speaker Joe TateCongresswoman Hillary Scholten, the Mayors of Lansing and Grand Rapids11 mayors across Metro Detroit40 clergy members across Michigan, the Michigan Democratic Party Black Caucus, Reps. Helena Scott (Detroit), Tyrone Carter (Detroit), Amos O’Neal (Saginaw), Brenda Carter (Pontiac), former Detroit Mayor and NBA Hall of Famer Dave Bing, former MI Governor Jim BlanchardElect Democratic Women PAC, and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.
