“Haley has the track record and the Michigan grit to lower costs and get things done for Michigan families.”
DETROIT, MI – Today, former Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow endorsed Haley Stevens for Senate.
“It was the honor of my lifetime to suit up every day and fight for Michigan as your US senator,” said former Senator Debbie Stabenow. “Today, I’m endorsing Congresswoman Haley Stevens to be our next senator, because I know she’ll do the same thing. Haley was born and raised in Michigan. She is Michigan through and through, and we’ve been partners ever since she was President Obama’s Chief of Staff for the auto rescue. Haley has the track record and the Michigan grit to lower costs and get things done for Michigan families. Equally important, at this very critical time, I know she can beat Mike Rogers in the general election. The stakes have never been higher, and Haley Stevens is the right person at the right time for Michigan.”
“Throughout our state’s history, there have been few greater champions for Michigan than my friend Debbie Stabenow. She fought for Michigan manufacturing, protected our Great Lakes and clean water, stood up for our farmers, and took on tough fights–and won for Michigan,” said Congresswoman Haley Stevens. “Senator Stabenow knows what it takes to win in Michigan and deliver for Michigan, and I’ll continue the incredible work she did for our state in the Senate. I’m honored and humbled to have her on my side in this campaign.”

Debbie Stabenow knows how to win for Michigan. She fought tirelessly to save Michigan’s auto industry, championing President Barack Obama’s auto rescue. As just the second woman to chair the Senate Agriculture Committee, Stabenow helped write bipartisan and historic Farm Bills, ensuring Michigan farmers had the resources they needed to succeed. Stabenow authored the crucial provision in the Affordable Care Act that ensures maternity care is covered as a basic health benefit and wrote provisions to require that all plans on state health insurance marketplaces offer mental health and addiction treatment services at the same level as other care. When Detroit fell into bankruptcy and Flint faced the lead water crisis, Stabenow played a foundational role in bringing critical funding back to Michigan to support recovery efforts, from blight removal to water infrastructure improvements.
Poll after poll after poll after poll after poll has shown Haley leading this primary. She has a “unique appeal” and “magic” with independents, while her opponents “have a problem with independents,” voters who “always make the difference” in Michigan. According to the Detroit News, Haley “fared the best among the three Democratic U.S. Senate candidates in hypothetical matchups against Rogers,” because she is “the only Democrat matching his appeal among independent voters.”
Coming off a week of announcing three major union endorsements, Haley continues to build the infrastructure to win statewide in Michigan and gain momentum. She has the most union endorsements in the Senate race by a long shot, almost double the amount of her opponents combined.
