“Haley Stevens has spent her entire career protecting Michigan jobs and Michigan workers… She’s our best shot to keep this Senate seat blue.”
DETROIT, MI – Today, respected community leader Colleen Ochoa Peters endorsed Haley Stevens in her run for U.S Senate. In her endorsement, she emphasized Haley’s lifelong work protecting Michigan manufacturing and auto jobs, and her electoral strength in a general election to defeat Mike Rogers.
“Haley has proven time and again that she’s a fighter for working Michiganders,” said Colleen Ochoa Peters. “Poll after poll has shown Haley is the strongest Democrat in this race and the best positioned to beat Mike Rogers. She’s spent her entire career protecting Michigan jobs and Michigan workers–from helping save 200,000 Michigan auto jobs on President Obama’s auto rescue to investing in Michigan manufacturing in Congress to ensure our workers have the training and resources they need to succeed. She’s our best shot to keep this Senate seat blue, and I am so honored to stand with Haley in her run for U.S. Senate.”
“I am so proud to have the endorsement of my dear friend Colleen,” said Congresswoman Haley Stevens. “Colleen knows what it takes to win a Senate race in Michigan and that Michiganders need an effective fighter in the Senate to deliver for our state. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her by my side.”
Poll after poll after poll after poll after poll has shown Haley leading this primary. She has a “unique appeal” and “magic” with independents, while her opponents “have a problem with independents,” voters who “always make the difference” in Michigan. According to the Detroit News, Haley “fared the best among the three Democratic U.S. Senate candidates in hypothetical matchups against Rogers,” because she is “the only Democrat matching his appeal among independent voters.”
Haley continues to build the infrastructure to win statewide in Michigan and gain momentum. She has the most union endorsements in the Senate race by a long shot, with more than double the amount of her closest opponent. So far, Haley has been endorsed by the Operating Engineers 324, Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers Local 292, Boilermakers Local 169, Sheet Metal Workers Local 80, Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 2, Plumbers Local 98, IronWorkers Local 25, Teamsters Local 243, UNITE HERE Local 24, Pipefitters, Steamfitters, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Service Local Union 636, Michigan Machinists Council, former state House Speaker Joe Tate, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, the Mayors of Lansing and Grand Rapids, 11 mayors across Metro Detroit, 40 clergy members across Michigan, the Michigan Democratic Party Black Caucus, Reps.
