“Haley Stevens stands out as the candidate who is best suited to serve in the U.S. Senate”

“Stevens has stepped into the role… as a defender of Michigan’s automotive industry and manufacturing in general.”

DETROIT, MI – The Detroit News endorsed Haley Stevens for U.S. Senate, citing her fight for Michigan jobs and families and her proven track record as a steady, experienced lawmaker.

Read key excerpts from the Detroit News’ endorsement:

  • Michigan needs a U.S. senator who can speak in Washington for a broad majority of the state’s people, provide mature and responsible leadership for the nation and work across the political divide to meet the serious challenges facing America.

  • Haley Stevens stands out as the candidate who is best suited to serve in the U.S. Senate.

  • In the House, Stevens has stepped into the role once occupied by the late Rep. John Dingell, D-Dearborn, as a defender of Michigan’s automotive industry and manufacturing in general.

  • Building off her experience as chief of staff for President Barack Obama’s 2008 Auto Task Force, Stevens has focused her four terms in Congress on developing the skilled workforce U.S. manufacturers need to build their products here.

  • She has also sponsored legislation to protect domestic automakers from foreign competition, particularly from China. And she has been instrumental in securing the supply chain by supporting measures such as the CHIPS Act.

  • But what worries us most about El-Sayed is his association with antisemites such as Hasan Piker, who spews anti-Jewish tropes and has appeared on stage with the candidate.

  • Haley Stevens is a steady, experienced lawmaker who has proved her worth in Congress. She should be nominated in Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary.

The Detroit News has a record of endorsing winning candidates in Michigan, including in Democratic primaries like Elissa Slotkin in her 2024 primary and Gretchen Whitmer in her 2018 primary.
