Senator Catherine Cortez Masto: “Haley Stevens is a proven winner in a swing seat and puts in the work to deliver for her state when too many people are just looking for headlines”
DETROIT, MI – Today, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Honorary Chair of the ModSquad PAC, endorsed Haley Stevens for U.S. Senate, citing her strong record of delivering for Michiganders and her unique ability to win one of the most competitive Senate races in the country.
“Haley Stevens is a proven winner in a swing seat and puts in the work to deliver for her state when too many people are just looking for headlines,” said Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Honorary Chair of ModSquad. “She has a track record that puts Michigan first, from her work helping lead President Obama’s auto rescue to her fight to grow the state’s manufacturing industry. She’s taken on Trump’s chaotic tariff agenda and stood up for workers in every corner of Michigan. I look forward to working alongside her in the U.S. Senate.”
“Senator Cortez Masto helped re-elect Senator Gary Peters and flip four Senate seats from red to blue, including the historic 2021 runoff elections in Georgia, winning back control of the Senate for Democrats. She’s won two hard-fought races in Nevada. She knows what it takes to win difficult Senate races in battleground swing states, and I’m honored to have her by my side,” said Congresswoman Haley Stevens. “She’s led the fight to lower the costs of health care, housing, and prescription drugs. I’m grateful to have her support as we work to bring down costs, make Michigan more affordable, and keep this Senate seat blue.”
Poll after poll after poll has shown Haley leading this primary, that she has a unique “magic” with independents, and is the only Democrat who can beat Mike Rogers this fall. Polling from the Detroit News and Glengariff Group showed that Haley Stevens was once again in a commanding position in the U.S. Senate race, especially with independent voters. According to the Detroit News, Haley “fared the best among the three Democratic U.S. Senate candidates in hypothetical matchups against Rogers,” because she is “the only Democrat matching his appeal among independent voters.”
So far, a total of eight polls that have surveyed the MISEN race have shown that Haley is the strongest general election candidate, with her opponents either growing Rogers’ vote share or outright losing to Rogers: Emerson, Detroit News, Mitchell Research, EPIC-MRA, Detroit Regional Chamber, Normington Petts, Rosetta Stone, Sentinel Action Fund. Other polls show Steven consistently leading the primary, including polling from Upswing Research, Global Strategy Group, the NRSC, Rosetta Stone, and Mitchell Research.
As the Michigan Advance put it, Haley is the only Democratic candidate who “comes close enough to making the contest competitive” against Mike Rogers.
Haley continues to build the infrastructure to win statewide in Michigan and gain momentum. She has the most labor union endorsements by a long shot. So far, Haley has been endorsed by Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 2, Plumbers Local 98, IronWorkers Local 25, Teamsters Local 243, UNITE HERE Local 24, Pipefitters, Steamfitters, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Service Local Union 636, former state House Speaker Joe Tate, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, the Mayors of Lansing and Grand Rapids, 11 mayors across Metro Detroit, 12 Oakland County elected officials and community leaders, 40 clergy members across Michigan, the Michigan Democratic Party Black Caucus, Reps. Helena Scott (Detroit), Tyrone Carter (Detroit), Amos O’Neal (Saginaw), Brenda Carter (Pontiac), former Detroit Mayor and NBA Hall of Famer Dave Bing, former MI Governor Jim Blanchard, former Governor Martin O’Malley, Elect Democratic Women PAC, former MDP Chair Lavora Barnes, former Rep. Brenda Lawrence, a slate of Congressional Black Caucus Members, and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. Read the full and growing list of endorsements here.
Haley’s strength comes from her relentless focus on protecting and growing Michigan manufacturing, fighting Trump’s reckless tariffs that undermine Michigan industries and jobs while increasing costs, and working to make groceries and health care more affordable for Michiganders. Haley was named the most effective Democratic member of Congress from Michigan and the most effective Democrat in the entire Congress on technology issues. She’ll continue that record of winning for Michigan to the U.S. Senate.
