Jennifer Granholm Endorses Haley Stevens for Senate

5/19/2026

DETROIT, MI –  Former Michigan Governor and former U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm today endorsed Haley Stevens, pointing to Haley’s “Michigan grit” and focus on jobs, manufacturing and making life more affordable for Michigan families.

“Michigan’s next Senator needs to focus on Michigan jobs, Michigan manufacturing, bringing down costs for Michigan families and standing up for Michigan against Donald Trump’s recklessness. That’s Haley Stevens,” said former Governor Jennifer Granholm. “Haley’s got Michigan grit, which I saw while she served as Chief of Staff to President Obama’s auto rescue and was a key member of the team that helped save 200,000 Michigan auto jobs. Now she’s taking on Trump to protect our auto industry from China, end his damaging tariffs and bring down costs for Michiganders. Haley delivers for Michigan and will beat Mike Rogers this November, and I couldn’t be more proud to support her.”

“Jennifer Granholm has been a champion for Michigan workers her entire career. She’s a trailblazer who created jobs, protected our Great Lakes and freshwater, and fought for our auto and manufacturing industry,” said Haley. “I’m thrilled to have her by my side in this campaign as I take on the damage Donald Trump is doing to our state and our workers, and deliver for Michigan as our next Senator.”

Governor Granholm’s endorsement follows major endorsements for Haley, including former Senator Debbie Stabenow, Colleen Ochoa Peters, and the Original Eastside Slate. Haley has earned the support of major unions across the state and has the most union endorsements in the race, with twelve endorsements so far.

Haley has built a coalition of support including former state House Speaker Joe Tate, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, the Mayors of Lansing and Grand Rapids, 11 mayors across Metro Detroit, 40 clergy members across Michigan, the Michigan Democratic Party Black Caucus, former Detroit Mayor and NBA Hall of Famer Dave Bing, former MI Governor Jim BlanchardElect Democratic Women PAC, former MDP Chair Lavora Barnes, former Rep. Brenda Lawrence, and a slate of Congressional Black Caucus Members. Read the full and growing list of endorsements here.

Poll after poll after poll after poll after poll has shown Haley leading this primary. She has a “unique appeal” and “magic” with independents, while her opponents “have a problem with independents,” voters who “always make the difference” in Michigan. According to the Detroit News, Haley “fared the best among the three Democratic U.S. Senate candidates in hypothetical matchups against Rogers,” because she is “the only Democrat matching his appeal among independent voters.”
