DETROIT, MI – Today, Detroit City Council President Pro Tem Coleman A. Young II endorsed Haley Stevens for U.S. Senate, citing her ability to listen, collaborate, and deliver to get things done for Michiganders.

“I’ve spent my time in the Michigan Legislature and now as President Pro Tem of the Detroit City Council fighting to deliver real results for working families,” said Coleman A. Young II, Detroit City Council President Pro Tem. “I know how important it is to have partners in Washington who understand cities like Detroit. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Congresswoman Haley Stevens for the United States Senate. She’s consistently shown up for Michiganders, knows how to get things done, and is the kind of leader who listens, collaborates, and delivers.”

“I’m honored to have the support of Council President Pro Tem Coleman A. Young II, a leader who has dedicated his career to fighting for Detroit families and delivering results in the Michigan Legislature and on the Detroit City Council,” said Haley. “His partnership means a great deal because building a stronger Michigan requires all of us—working together to expand opportunity and move our state forward.”

Detroit City Council President Pro Tem Coleman A. Young II’s endorsement follows major endorsements for Haley, including former Governor Jennifer Granholm, former Senator Debbie Stabenow, Colleen Ochoa Peters, and the Original Eastside Slate. Haley has earned the support of major unions across the state and has the most union endorsements in the race, with a dozen endorsements so far.

Haley has built a broad coalition of support including former state House Speaker Joe Tate, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, the Mayors of Lansing and Grand Rapids, 11 mayors across Metro Detroit, 40 clergy members across Michigan, the Michigan Democratic Party Black Caucus, former Detroit Mayor and NBA Hall of Famer Dave Bing, former MI Governor Jim Blanchard, Elect Democratic Women PAC, former MDP Chair Lavora Barnes, former Rep. Brenda Lawrence, and a slate of Congressional Black Caucus Members. Read the full and growing list of endorsements here.

Poll after poll after poll after poll after poll has shown Haley leading this primary. She has a “unique appeal” and “magic” with independents, while her opponents “have a problem with independents,” voters who “always make the difference” in Michigan. According to the Detroit News, Haley “fared the best among the three Democratic U.S. Senate candidates in hypothetical matchups against Rogers,” because she is “the only Democrat matching his appeal among independent voters.
